On 20 January 2025, President Trump declared the cartels as foreign terrorist organizations and indicated the possibility of using special forces. One can dismiss that as mere “talk” which is not entirely unfair since action is more important.
The unpleasant tone of the “talk” between the US and Mexico in recent days or weeks was apparent. I do not know what was actually said behind the scenes but then on February 3, one US RC-135V flew off the coast of Mexico near known cartel territory. Although it does not look like it entered Mexican airspace, it is still blatantly close. (US Navy P-8s were also reportedly operating along the southern border.)
One does not need a military background to know that this is a highly capable surveillance, intelligence, electronic warfare and recon aircraft. We know it was there because its transponder was on. Translation: You can sorta see us because we are letting everyone know that we can see you and everything you are doing.
But that is not all…
On the same day, it was reported that the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN-68) was doing exercises off the coast of southern California. That in itself could be mere coincidence but according to marine vessel tracking, the ship headed further south…
